Bird Flu?! 3/24/09

My brother, Evan, is a UPS driver. I got a phone call from him saying "YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE WHAT JUST HAPPENED!!" A FLOCK of birds flew out in front of his UPS truck on a country road & he could not avoid them. There were dead birds all over the road. He continued on his route, & as he drove back through that area, this was the scene: He decided to stop & talk to the authorities. He found out he had killed at least 83 birds in one shot! They even helped him pull some out of the grill of his truck.

As the story unfolded he discovered that the people who live in the house right where it happened thought they must have a gas leak or something when they saw all the dead birds. So they called the fire department. When the fire department couldn't find a leak, they called the fish & game department, assuming there must be a weird disease that killed the birds. They, in turn, alerted the police. They were all laughing when Evan stopped to tell them it was simply a UPS truck that caused the destruction!!
The next day he heard it had been on the news. Here is the report off their website, kpvi.com, where I got the pictures:
Birds Struck by UPS Truck in Chubbuck

"If you were traveling on Philbin Road, just north of the interstate overpass Tuesday afternoon, you may have seen dozens of dead birds on the road. Pictures were sent to us soon after sheriff's officers arrived on the scene. No mysterious diseases or strange events. What the sheriff's office told us is a UPS truck was simply driving down the road and hit the flock of birds. The driver of the truck was not injured and the birds were quickly cleaned off the road."
My friends called him, pretending to be from PETA & "investigating the incident," but he didn't buy it!! hee hee

Darci, this is such a funny story. I had only heard bits and pieces of it but seeing the photos and hearing all of the details, makes it even more hilarious!

I had to link this one on my blog!

Way to go Evan! There has to be a record somewhere for this! And he must have beat it!
