6th Grade Graduation is a big deal here. I admit that I made fun of it before it happened. However having experienced it, I wish everyone had been able to be a part of it.

They had a breakfast at a local hotel, which Reid & I were able to attend, where they had speakers and the graduation ceremony. The speakers mostly talked about making good choices in middle school & high school. One of the speakers was Leo McCarthy, whose 13 year old daughter, Mariah, also went to Hillcrest. She was hit by a drunk driver & killed while walking home with friends last year. The drunk driver was underage.
(See their website.)
Caitlin's teacher, Mrs. Ricketts - - & Cool counselor, Mrs. Burk

Caitlin's teacher spoke of a quote by Van Zant, "It's better to be hated for who you are than to be loved for who you're not."
They made a video of pictures taken throughout the year which was playing at the breakfast, and each child received a copy of it.
In their diploma folders, they also gave them their report cards & other awards. Caitlin had
straight As
and received a
Gold Honor Roll
certificate and the
Presidential Academic Award.
Afterward they were taken by bus to a bowling and pizza party, where they had a live DJ. Then they went to a classmate's house for a graduation party.
It was really great for Caitlin to have this big event since we are moving. At the bowling alley, they dedicated a song to Caitlin & some friends got on the microphone to tell her how they'll miss her. There were lots of tears.
With some good friends:
